What’s Happening with Property Taxes? By, Rick Jusenius

Property Tax

Unfortunately, it’s that time of year when we receive statements for taxes due. So very thoughtful we can split it up into two payments. When calculating the vast amounts of money being collected it rattles my brain. Much of what’s being collected funds public schools, which I support. However, I have a feeling they’re not very good stewards of our money. Good schools are very important not only for our children they also support healthy communities and Real Estate values.

If the average class size is (let’s say) 30 students and we multiply that by the now required amount of funding through the collection of property taxes this would (I believe) equal about half million dollars for every classroom in Washington State. Between what the teacher is paid and equipment in the classroom that is only a small portion of these funds. The rest is being consumed by administrative costs. Something is wrong with this picture.

I’m feeling like it is time to get involved with local School Boards and see if we can trim down these out of control administrative costs. This would be of great benefit to our children and the overburdened taxpayers. Even if you are renting these costs trickle down to you through higher rents. In other words, we’re all feeling the pinch.

We need excellent schools and we need great oversight to rein in costs in order to provide the world’s best education system. Sadly, we have fallen short.

Please call me and we can arrange for a discussion about your wants, needs, and challenges in Real Estate. You are never under any obligation! Together we can make your home ownership dreams come true.
